Relax and enjoy the serenity of a rural environment on our small farm. Take-in the vineyard, the truffiere and mature trees. Relax in the expansive park-like gardens only 15 minutes from Taupo.
We have fantastic bird life. In summer the Tuis and Bellbirds will feed on the flax flowers in front of the deck.
If you are lucky you will see a Hare or two or maybe some pheasants, definitely rabbits.
The deck is a great place to have a drink in the evening and the courtyard is perfect on a sunny morning for breakfast. At lunchtime you will need the umbrella to shade you, and on a balmy summer evening it is perfect for an alfresco dinner.

We encourage guests to walk around the gardens to enjoy our collection of sculptures from New Zealand & the United Kingdom.

Eating and Drinking
The lodge kitchen is well kitted out for cooking and there are lovely outdoor areas for alfresco dining. We have a BBQ and woodfired Pizza oven. The Lodge has a 4 gas burner hob and microwave/convection oven. We can provide an antipasta platter and a catered 2 course dinner upon request with 24 hours notice as all ingredients are sourced fresh.

We have ponds and other water hazards and the sleeping arrangements may not be suitable for young families, especially toddlers. We can provide a fold-away bed for an infant in the Lodge.

We are a luxury self catering bed and breakfast, in a rural setting, just 15 minutes drive from Taupo. We provide generous organic/free range provisions for a delicious breakfast including homemade bread and baked sweet treats. The lodge kitchen is well kitted out for cooking and there are lovely outdoor areas for alfresco dining. We have high speed internet and a phone, although we don't have great cell coverage at the Lodge. There is no TV.

Our guests love the peace and quiet of Hare's Rest surrounded by park like gardens and an abundance of native birdlife. A warm fire in the colder times of the year and plenty of home cooked food for a sumptuous breakfast, many of our guest never leave the lodge and grounds during their stay.
Hare'sRest is completely off grid and adheres to sustainable principles and when-ever possible all the food we provide is organic and locally sourced. You can forage from the garden and eat fresh eggs from our chickens collectively called The Henrietta's.
We can provide a substantial antipasto platter catered to your tastes or just let us surprise you with a selection of fine cheeses, cured meats, pickles, home made crackers and bread. Wine can be supplied for an extra charge. Once you arrive at Hare'sRest you won't want to leave so let use cater for you or stock up before you arrive. Please provide 24 hours notice if you would like this option.
Lets us prepare a 2 course dinner ready and waiting for you to cook when you arrive or at anytime during your stay. This includes a main course, desert or cheeseboard. Wine can be purchased separately.
We require 24 hours notice and will arrange with you to cater to your tastes and any dietary requirements.
